Smart Cities Will Need NVDA as Much as TSLA

By: September 28, 2023

The one thing to bear in mind with exciting new ideas like smart cities is that their fortunes will largely depend upon the strength of the local, state, and federal governments’ abilities to build plans that will maximize their ability to function in a smart way.

For example, if they don’t prioritize a dense urban environment, then EVs and AVs may well be used to move people over large distances and create more sprawl than we already have in most urban centers.

Then again, some cities, like New York City, already have trains that come in from outside the city and deliver passengers to locations where they can then access buses or taxis to get to their final destinations.

That type of system may transition well to EVs and AVs. Ultimately, a completely AV-controlled city would allow more open space, since you would no longer need stop lights and traffic signage because the AVs could operate without those visual cues if they were integrated with smart roads.

There are so many game-changing ideas brought on by AVs in future urban environments that it’s difficult to list them all.

The most fundamental facts for investors are that you have to look to the companies that are most willing to understand the opportunities that exist and are moving towards these new ideas.

For example, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) has been experimenting with retail stores where you grab what you need and walk out – no check-out lines – and everything is billed to your account, which is on file.

The initial rollout in New York City didn’t go well, but instead of killing it, AMZN went back to the drawing board, and it’s reappearing again.

AMZN is also involved at all levels in autonomous delivery vehicles – from the grocery store delivery robots to smaller models, to robotaxis to autonomous tractor trailers.

AMZN is just one company that’s delivering the goods. Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is heavily involved, as are some younger EV companies looking to find a niche in the sector.

On the other side are the chipmakers like NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA), Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), and Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM). They will be the engines for these new cities and stand to remain dominant as these technologies expand.
