Digital Infrastructure Is Already Booming for Old and New Economy Players

By: December 7, 2023

The MegaTrend players transforming how we live, work, and play are generally centered around the powerful digital economy.

The fact is, we’re just at the beginning of that journey. It will transform how we live for generations that have yet to be born, much less our current generations.

One of the most important aspects of the Digital Age is digital infrastructure.

Not only have the digital innovators transformed what we can do with computers but even “dumb” devices are gaining “intelligence” at a rapid rate.

Just look at how quickly artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models are iterating.

But for long-term growth, MegaTrends remain the best choice – and some of those are in the Old Economy as well as the New one.

The one thing to remember when we’re talking about digital infrastructure and the broader trend of digital transformation is it’s just as important recognize that Old Economy stocks have a huge role to play in delivering all the opportunities that New Economy stocks can provide.

I’m sure you’ve been in plenty of places where you lose mobile phone service, even today. Or where data feeds are markedly slower than others.

That’s because antennas and fiber or copper cables that are the “last mile” providers of data to consumers and business have to be constructed and wired up.

And it’s also important to remember that 5G signals can’t use old 4G technology, especially in cities. Smaller antennas are necessary to get coverage in urban areas and that means a whole new antenna boom.

What’s more the major government program to wire America with high-speed cable means companies like United Rentals (NYSE: URI) and Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT) will be reaping big benefits for years to come.

The winners of this new digital society always start with the companies that build the foundations of the new generation.

And the broader digital transformation opportunities are supposed to hit $3.9 trillion by 2027.

You can guarantee that companies like Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG), NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA), Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and IBM (NYSE: IBM) will be major players.
